Homeschool Students Earn Honors Scholarship

Nathaniel and Hannah are not typical students. However, their accomplishments are not atypical of homeschool graduates.

Nathaniel will graduate this year with his older sister, two years ahead of schedule. Both will attend a local college on a two-year full honors scholarship.

Why?

Because eight years ago their parents recognized the fact that their local public school could not meet the needs of their kids and committed to homeschooling them.

The result? Two exceptional homeschoolers who not only excelled academically, but have also used their talents and abilities to support community organizations.

Hannah volunteers her time as an assistant at a local drama school and at a local private school where she assists with acting and choreography.

Nathaniel, who is a talented musicians volunteers his time at the same organizations as the accompanist to their musicals.

Both homeschoolers also serve in various roles to support the ministry of their church.

Both took two dual credits this year at a local college. Because they tested out of English 101, one of their courses was English 105, a study of writing as literary criticism.

And both were recruited by their professor to serve as peer tutors in writing (remember, these are seniors in high school taking on leadership roles to assist their college age classmates).

Because of their exceptional performance in both college level classes, Hannah and Nathaniel were encouraged to apply for the school’s honor scholarship. And both were accepted with enthusiasm.

So what will the future hold for these outstanding homeschool students? We don’t know yet, but we do know they have learned the value of hard work and strong academics as well as the importance of character and serving others.

And that alone will take them wherever they want to go.
