101 Reasons to Homeschool

Mar 29th, 2008 | By Jessica Parnell | Category: General Homeschool Posts, History and Social Studies

Because of my role as a homeschool consultant and evaluator, I receive many calls for information about homeschooling.

One common struggle that parents have is determining their reasons for homeschooling.

For some, their reasons for homeschooling are a toss-up between academics and school aggression; for others, it is a desire to raise their children in an environment that does not undermine their belief system; for still others, their reasons for homeschooling include a need to help a struggling student as well as a desire to avoid labels.

  • We know from research and tracking (through standardized testing) that homeschoolers are better prepared academically.
  • We know that colleges and universities often state that homeschoolers are better prepared for the rigors of college academics and that they contribute more to the school.
  • And we know that homeschooling provides an irreplaceable avenue to really pour yourself into the lives of your precious children.

However, many still struggle with the decision to homeschool, primarily out of fear that they can do it well. Rather than tout my experience as a homeschooler, let me instead give you my statistics as a consultant and evaluator. . .

I have worked personally as an evaluator of over 850 homeschoolers and I have only seen two families who did not do it well.   You can do it!   If you are struggling with your decision to homeschoolclick here for a list of 101 reasons for homeschooling.   If you prefer not to go it alone, visit Bridgeway Academy to learn more about how a full service homeschool program can make it easy to get started and to succeed.

  1. I’m curious to know the reasons people give for NOT homeschooling.

I recently asked this on my blog and it created a little heat debate from one reader.

Would you care to share your experiences?

    Thanks!
